چکیده

In this paper we will analyze the relations between outbound email and inbound email traffic. We consider outbound traffic being sending email using the SMTP and inbound traffic being receiving or retrieving email using POP or IMAP. IMAP appears to be less used than POP. In corporate networks it is likely to have more SMTP than POP/IMAP traffic and in residential networks the situation is reversed. Even so, the amount of email traffic is negligible in comparison to the total amount of network traffic.

Internet Interconnection Economic Model and its Analysis: Peering and Settlement

Peering and transit are two types of Internet interconnection among ISPs. Peering has been a core concept to sustain Internet industry. However, for the past several years, many ISPs broke their peering arrangement because of asymmetric traffic pattern and asymmetric benefit and cost from the peering. Even though traffic flows are not a good indicator of the relative benefit of an Internet inte...

An Integrated Network Management Framework for Inter-domain Outbound Traffic Engineering

This paper proposes an integrated network management framework for inter-domain outbound traffic engineering. The framework consists of three functional blocks (monitoring, optimization and implementation) to make the outbound traffic engineering adaptive to network condition changes such as inter-domain traffic demand variation, inter-domain routing changes and link failures. The objective is ...

The Outbound Voice Traffic Reduction Scheme in the Push - To - Talk Environment

The push-to-talk technology provides a walkie-talkie like service for group communication. In this paper, we propose an efficient outbound voice traffic reduction scheme in the push-to-talk environment when network congestion happens. The Open Mobile Alliancepush-to-talk over cellular (OMA PoC) architecture, the standard for this kind of group communication, is used as a base network in this pa...

Priority rules govern the organization of traffic on foraging trails under crowding conditions in the leaf-cutting ant Atta colombica.

Foraging in leaf-cutting ants is generally organized along well-defined recruitment trails supporting a bi-directional flow of outbound and nestbound individuals. This study attempts to reveal the priority rules governing the organization of traffic on these trails. Ants were forced to move on a narrow trail, allowing the passage of only two individuals at a time. In this condition, a desynchro...
